P1

Shared Education partner Schools

P1 had a great time playing with pupils from our Shared Education partnership schools St Colmcille’s Primary School and Roscavey Primary School. It was very wet so we continued the fun indoors and enjoyed making new friends.

Learning through play

P1 have settled in well to their new school. It has been lovely to see them reconnect with their friends from pre-school. They have enjoyed singing Nursery Rhymes as part of our topic ‘A Time to Rhyme’. P1 have really enjoyed play time and have particularly enjoyed outdoor play!

Welcome P1 - 2024/25

P1 trip to the folk Park

P1 enjoyed a great day out at the Ulster American Folk Park as we ‘popped to the shops’ – we especially loved visiting the sweetie shop at the end!

Little Red Riding Hood Experiment

Poor Little Red Riding Hoods cloak was just not designed for our weather. P1 conducted an experiment where we tested a variety of materials to make a new waterproof coat for Little Red! We enjoyed predicting, testing, recording and evaluating our findings.

Let's have a Tea Party!

A Spot of Tea! To mark the end of our WAU topic, ‘A Time to Rhyme’, pupils celebrated in style and attended the Little Teapots Tea Party, dressed as their favourite nursery rhyme character!

The pupils also attended their very own art gallery where they appreciated one another’s nursery rhyme themed artwork!

Henrietta Hedgehog Home Building

Guardians of Nature – we enjoyed building cosy homes for our little spikey friend, Henrietta the hedgehog, as she hibernates. We read the book, ‘Don’t Hog the Hedge’ and found out about different types of animals that hibernate too!

During our first Mental Maths Mayhem of the year, we sorted leaves for size, colour and texture! We also enjoyed developing our number recognition and counting skills by building a city and playing fun Maths games on the iPads. Maths really can be fun!

Mental Maths Mayhem 2

Maths just keeps getting more interesting! P1 got to make their own pizza’s by following the order slip, attaching the correct number of stamps and counting 1p’s using the iPad. Pupils also loved getting to follow patterns by making marshmallow kebabs, although it was very tempting not to eat them up.

Shared Ed Trip

Making new friends and new memories as part of our Shared Education! We loved getting to travel to new schools for some outdoor play, we especially enjoyed playing with one another at the mud kitchen and on the play equipment.

Small and Tall

With clipboards in hand, the pupils explored the outdoors for objects that were small and tall. We loved getting to put our learning into a real-life context.

Tree Leaves

All the Leaves are Falling Down… and we pick them up to make some artwork!
