Pupils weighed fruit, vegetables and items from around their classroom. They even weighed a shoe! They used non-standard units or kilogram and half kilogram weights. They compared the weights of the heaviest and lightest items.Â
Pupils made iMovie Magic by taking photos of potatoes numbered one to ten. Then they recorded themselves reciting the rhyme One potato, two potato… They combined their images and sound on iMovie and edited before saving their movies to watch with their classmates.Â
P3 and P4 pupils participated in Mental Maths Mayhem. Their activity-based learning outdoors linked to our ‘It’s a Bug’s Life’ World Around Us topic. Â
Pupils made a tally of minibeasts they found in the school grounds and answered questions using the information collected. Â
Pupils sorted creepy crawlies (plastic ones) using a Venn diagram. They recorded their ideas for sorting which included insects/wings, legs/no legs and green/not green. Â
Just for fun, pupils also had a paper plane flying competition and measured how many metres planes travelled. They calculated whose went furthest. Â
Â
As part of Activity Based Learning throughout the school, pupils participate in Mental Maths Mayhem with their class peers each term. P3 and P4 pupils have been learning about money, odd and even numbers, using mathematical symbols and rounding numbers to the nearest ten in practical ways through discussion and games.
Our classrooms have been ticking along beautifully this week as P3 and P4 dive into the world of analogue clocks. We’ve moved past the basics and are now mastering the art of the “Quarter Past” and the “Quarter To”!
It turns out that telling the time is a bit like cutting a giant pizza—once you know where the quarters are, the rest is easy.
P3-4 favourite exhibits was the ship that carried many emigrants off to seek fame and fortune in the New World and eating homemade pancakes!
P3-4 Experience Life in 1900
Pupils dressed up in olden day clothes and went back in time.
Â
Rows of desks instead of group tables was the norm today. Then they were transported to see how people lived in the 1800’s/early 1900’s when McClintock PS was first built.
We have been enjoying reading books for Accelerated Reading.
P3/4 have enjoyed having the Mandarin tutor in school every week. They have developed good understanding of the language and have been enjoying learning how to say their name, count and describe themselves in Mandrin. We have also learnt about Chinese New Year. Â
As part of our shape and space topic, P3/4 have created beautiful symmetrical artwork. Â
Lots of times tables learning has been happening in P3/4 through practical, hands-on activities such as mental maths games and interactive apps online such as hit the button. Â
