P7

Who runs the world...girls!

The P6 and P7 girls had a fantastic time at their recent rugby training session, led by Accies coach Darren. 🏉

The session was full of energy, skill-building, and plenty of smiles, with the girls really getting stuck in and supporting each other throughout. Darren’s coaching made the training both fun and engaging, helping the girls build confidence and teamwork.

All of the girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience, especially with their upcoming tournament to look forward to. It was a brilliant opportunity to sharpen their skills and get excited for what’s ahead! 💪

Well done, girls – keep up the great work and good luck in the tournament!

First Aid Training and Coping with Challenges

P7 had an action-packed and super important training session this week with Marty from the Red Cross! 🚑✨

The pupils got hands-on experience learning life-saving skills, including how to put someone into the recovery position, perform CPR, and even how to use a defibrillator. They took it all in their stride and showed fantastic focus and maturity throughout — you never know when these skills might make a real difference! ❤️

As well as first aid, the class also took part in a session on Coping with Challenges, helping them build resilience and confidence as they prepare for their exciting move to secondary school in September. 🎒

It was a brilliant day of learning, growing, and getting ready for the next big adventure. Well done, P7 — we’re very proud of you! 👏

Litterpick

P7 have been busy doing their bit for the community with a fantastic litter pick around the school grounds and throughout Seskinore village! 🌍💚

The pupils showed great teamwork and pride in helping to keep their local area clean and tidy — a brilliant effort from everyone involved! 👏

To top it all off, they even got the chance to test out the new play park, which was very well received and the perfect reward after all their hard work! 🛝✨

Well done, P7 — a great example of caring for your community while having fun along the way! 🌟

Viking Longships

P7 pupils set sail with their Viking boat models, creatively built from recycled junk materials. Tested for flotation, the project showcased fantastic teamwork, problem solving skills, and imaginative designs! ⚓🛶

Conscience Alley

Pupils stepped into Michael’s shoes through a thoughtful ‘conscience alley’ after reading chapter 8 in Kensuke’s Kingdom. One group encouraged Michael to send the message in a bottle, while the other urged him not to. After listening carefully to both sides, Emily—acting as Michael—decided to send the message, driven by his strong wish to see his mother and father again.

3D Shape - relay race and building

Pupils had great fun revising the properties of 3D shapes through an active relay race—listening carefully to clues and racing to find the correct shape! The learning continued as teams worked together to build 3D shapes using pool noodles and cones, while other teams guessed the shapes. Fantastic teamwork, problem solving, and hands on maths learning!

2D Shape Hunt

When revising the properties of 2D shapes, P7 enjoyed a scavenger hunt in and around the school building.  They created a Shape Gallery using the PicCollage app to display their findings.

Elapsed time race

Pupils worked in pairs to race from station to station outside in the school grounds and solve time duration problems.  Time penalties were given for errors made.  Winners were Tom and Zach followed closely by Lois and Mary.

From the deep blue to the hot seat: P7 meets Michael

After reading Chapter 3 in Kensuke’s Kingdom, groups of children worked together to create 3 open ended questions to ask Michael.  Three pupils got into the role of Michael and were able to explain what had happened to him and how he felt.

P7 are going to 'Bee Safe'

Our P7 class traded the classroom for a world of real-life scenarios this week at the Bee Safe event! This interactive multi-agency day is a highlight of the P7 calendar, helping our pupils prepare for more independence as they look ahead to secondary school.

It was a whirlwind of workshops where our young people met the experts who keep our community running smoothly and safely.

🛡️ Meeting the Experts

The pupils rotated through stations led by different services, each bringing a vital message to life:

  • 🔥 NIFRS (Fire Brigade): We learned the importance of having a fire escape plan at home and how to test smoke alarms. The highlight was hearing what not to do in a kitchen emergency!
  • 🚌 Ulsterbus (Translink): The “Safety Bus” was a hit! We learned how to be respectful passengers and the safest ways to enter and exit public transport.
  • NIE Networks: We were shocked (not literally!) to learn about the dangers of overhead power lines and how to stay safe around electricity.
  • 🚤 RNLI (Lifeboats): With our beautiful coastlines and rivers, the “Float to Live” message was a crucial one. We learned how to stay calm if we ever find ourselves in cold water.
  • 🚔 PSNI: Our local officers chatted with us about making positive choices and the consequences of anti-social behavior.
  • 🚦 Road Safety: We brushed up on our green cross code and discussed the importance of being “bright and seen” near traffic.
  • 💻 Internet Safety: A big topic for P7! We discussed keeping our personal data private and what to do if we encounter something “dodgy” online.

A storybook connection: P7 and P1 come together for World Book Day

While the school was already buzzing with incredible costumes, something truly magical happened in the quiet corners of our classrooms today. To celebrate World Book Day, our P7 leaders paired up with their P1 buddies for a very special shared reading session.

There is nothing quite like seeing our oldest pupils sharing their love of stories with our youngest learners!

Fitness freddie put us through our paces

The playground was bouncing today as the one and only Fitness Freddie took us on an epic, high-octane fitness journey! From the tiny toes of P1 to the towering P7s, the entire school joined forces for a massive workout to raise vital money for our school funds.

Forget your morning coffee—all we needed was Fitness Freddie’s booming music and his “no-excuses” energy!

Mental Maths Mayhem

We didn’t just play for fun; every game had a hidden “brain workout” built in

Stylish Class of 2026

If you’ve noticed a sudden surge of style in the corridors today, it’s because our P7 Class of 2026 have officially received their Leavers’ Hoodies!

There’s something special about the day the hoodies arrive—it’s a rite of passage that says, “We’ve almost made it!” and the P7s are wearing them with serious pride.

Roots of Empathy - Visit 6

The excitement in P7 was at an all-time high today as we welcomed back our favourite tiny teacher, Baby Harry, for our sixth Roots of Empathy visit! Harry surprised us by crawling across the mat. We were delighted with this new skill – we even cheered!

As Harry gets bigger, our observations are getting even sharper. This week, we turned into “Emotion Detectives” to explore the wonderful (and sometimes loud!) world of Communication.

P7 are 'Shapeshifting' with tangrams

Our P7 classroom turned into a hub of ancient Chinese geometry this week as we tackled the challenge of the Tangram! It might look like just seven simple shapes, but as P7 quickly discovered, those little polygons can be quite the brain-teaser.

We stepped away from the calculators and picked up the scissors and rulers to see if we could master the art of the “Seven Boards of Skill.”

P7 instructional writing in action

As part of our literacy topic on instructional writing, Primary 7 have been busy designing their own fantastic mixture of sporting and desk-based games!

The pupils worked hard to create clear, easy-to-follow instructions, thinking carefully about how to explain their game step by step. They included numbered instructions, bossy verbs, and helpful tips to make sure everyone could understand how to play.

This week, each pupil will have the opportunity to be the “teacher” and lead their game with the class. It’s been wonderful to see their creativity, confidence, and leadership skills shining through as they put their instructions to the test!

Thank you to Jim, Tom and Lily May for leading the sessions today.

Building readers, building learners

Today our Primary 6 and Primary 7 pupils, alongside members of staff, took part in an exciting Shared Reading Training session!

This fantastic initiative will help our older pupils work closely with younger classes across the school to boost reading skills, confidence, and a love of books. By sharing stories, modelling expression, and supporting comprehension, they’ll play a key role in strengthening literacy throughout our school community.

We are incredibly proud to see our pupils stepping up, developing responsibility, communication skills, and empathy. Opportunities like this not only improve learning outcomes — they help us build future leaders who inspire, support, and encourage others.

Well done to everyone involved — we can’t wait to see Shared Reading in action across the school! 📖🌟

Times Table competition Champions

The volume was turned up to eleven this week as our P7 legends officially shredded their way to victory! We are absolutely thrilled to announce that P7 are the reigning champions of the latest Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) in-school competition. 🏆

There were no guitar smashes, but there was plenty of lightning-fast fingerwork as the class battled it out to climb the leaderboard.

Roots of Empathy Visit 5

Our P7 classroom was a little quieter than usual today—not because we were being naughty, but because we were being incredibly respectful to our favorite “Tiny Teacher,” Baby Harry!

For Theme 5 of our Roots of Empathy journey, we focused on a topic every parent knows well: Sleep. 😴

Lights, camera, action!

Today our P7 pupils became reporters and filmmakers as they planned, directed, costume-designed and filmed their own extreme weather reports. They worked collaboratively, shared creative ideas, and showed fantastic teamwork throughout the project.

We’re so proud of their confidence, creativity and enthusiasm — a brilliant example of learning through teamwork and imagination! 👏✨

P7 score a goal for healthy living

Our P7 pupils have been trading their textbooks for trainers lately as they kicked off some fantastic Healthy Living & Fitness sessions with the wonderful Nicola, our visiting IFA (Irish Football Association) coach!

There was no “sideline sitting” allowed—everyone was in the thick of the action, learning that being healthy is about much more than just running fast.

Roots of Empathy - visit 4

The theme for this visit was focusing on relationships. Rachel told us that Harry is a very relaxed baby and is very content. She discussed how she can settle him quickly.

We discussed how we all have a range of emotions and how our temperament influences how we deal with these.

All feelings are okay, although some feelings are unpleasant. We all share feelings, though we experience them uniquely. We can help ourselves by telling others our feelings.

Active learning in P7

✨Active Learning in P7 ✨

Our Primary 7 pupils have been busy exploring place value today through lots of active learning! 🙌

They worked together on problem-solving challenges, shared ideas, and supported each other while building their understanding. 💡🤝

It’s fantastic to see so much teamwork and enthusiasm in action! 🌟

P7 buddies for the new P1 class

We made cards for our new P1 buddy friends and introduced ourselves by playing some games.

History brought alive for P7

P7 visited Omagh Academy to participate in an immersive history workshop designed to deepen our knowledge of ‘Weapons through the Ages’.

During the visit, students engaged in a variety of activities including artifact examination and interactive presentations led by knowledgeable instructors from the Navan Centre in Armagh.

The workshop looked at many periods of history including the Celts, Vikings, Normans, the Plantation of Ulster and World War 1. Such workshops are invaluable in bringing history to life, helping students to appreciate its relevance and develop a deeper curiosity for the past.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the trip and we would like to thank Omagh Academy for their kind invitation to attend.

Helping our buddies settle in

✨Our wonderful P7 buddies have been busy helping our new P1 pupils settle into school life! ✨

From making colourful welcome cards to playing fun games together, the buddies have been a fantastic support. They’ve even been lending a hand as P1 develop their cutting skills ✂️.

It’s lovely to see such positive friendships forming across the school – well done, P7, and a big welcome to our new P1s! 💛

Roots of Empathy - visit 1

🌱Roots of Empathy in P7 🌱

Our Primary 7 class has officially started the Roots of Empathy program this week! The children were very excited to welcome Baby Harry and his Mummy into the classroom as their “tiny teacher.” 💚

Through this program, pupils will learn about empathy, kindness, and understanding emotions as they watch Harry grow and develop over the year. We can’t wait to see all the learning and meaningful conversations this will inspire!

Welcome to the class, Baby Harry! 👶✨

Reading with our P1 Buddy

roots of Empathy - Visit 2

We cannot believe how much Harry has grown since his last visit. The focus of this theme is looking at crying. Rachel explained how she settled Harry when he is upset. The children were able to ask what makes Harry cry.

We learned that a crying baby is not a bad baby, just a baby with a problem!

Digital Leader training by the Amma Centre

Four pupils from each P5, P6 and P7 class received training on making a game using get code. It is so important to train up and develop our pupils into leadership roles. Our friends from Roscavey Primary School also attended this training session for Shared Education.

Tennis Fest

🎾🎾P7 Tennis Fest 🎾🎾

P7 pupils from McClintock and Sacred Heart Primary Schools had a fantastic time on Friday at Omagh Tennis Club, thanks to the generosity of the Tennis Club and Seskinore Rural Communuity Group (SRCG).

Nikki Hawkes brilliantly coached the pupils, many of whom had never tried the sport before.

See below photos from the morning and a short video showing Zach who kept a rally going to 57 returns, amazing!

At the interval pupils were given water and fruit snacks. They were also given lovely wrist bands.

We are very grateful to Omagh Tennis Club and SRCG for arranging this lovely treat! 🥳

P7 in 1905

P7 experienced what school life was like when McClintock PS first opened its doors. They practiced their handwriting, the 3Rs and some rote learning. Pupils had the chance to take part in a PE lesson, then created a peg doll. We all had a go at trying out sewing – some of us, for the first time!

Class of 2026

P7 are proud to wear their new Leaver Hoodies.

Friendship Week

Our theme was using our ‘Power for Good.’

We discussed how we could achieve this, created secret friendship cards and designed superheroes.

Roots of Empathy - family visit 3

Roe theme 3

The theme for this month’s visit is Caring and Planning for baby. Did you know how expensive nappies are? Rachel explained the difference in price between different brands and how she needs to be prepared to bring nappies, change of clothes and a bottle when she leaves the house.

We tried to change the nappy on our Roots of Empathy doll.

We also had a little experiment to see how much water a nappy can hold. It was more than we thought.

We were delighted to see Harry roll over for the first time. We all cheered him on!

Mental Maths Mayhem

We love Mental Maths Mayhem. This term, our focus was on sorting using Venn diagrams. We love the practical element and working together in groups. Sometimes, we have to problem solve to reach the same answer.

P7 go to the Folk Park

They stepped back in time to experience what lessons were like in a strict old-style schoolhouse, before heading to the Campbell House where they sampled delicious traditional bread. We also learned about the origins of Thanksgiving and some of the traditions still celebrated today.

A special moment came when P7 pupil Rose shared that her own relations once lived in the Campbell House—bringing history to life in a truly meaningful way. 💫She shared the family tree and original photos with the class.

Well done, P7, for your enthusiasm and brilliant behaviour throughout the trip!

Scripture Union Carol Service

🎼Scripture Union Schools’ Carol Service 🎼

P7 pupils Emily Aiken and Lois McFarland represented McClintock PS at the SU Carol Service held in Omagh’s St. Columba’s Church of Ireland Parish.

They read Luke Chapter 2 Verses 8-16. Well done girls.

Congratulations to Scripture Union’s Sarah Emerson for arranging the lovely service. 🙂
