P4/5 had a great day with Jamie from the AmmA Creative Learning Centre. Using the website ‘MakeCode Arcade’, pupils made a Titanic themed platform game. They created their own sprites and backgrounds, designing platforms for their character to jump to and even adding in special sprites, bringing suspense to the game!
There was great enthusiasm and excitement in the room as pupils played their game, if their character fell into the water, it was game over!
We have learnt that fractions aren’t as tricky as we first thought they might be. We have applied our skills to reading mixed numbers and finding equivalent fractions too.
We have recently started developing our skills in Handball with Nicola. Mrs Foster has been really impressed with our ability to pick up the skills of this new sport so quickly. We are really enjoying the fast pace of the sport and are developing our teamwork skills.
We had great fun dressing up for World Book Day. Some of us chose to dress as our favourite book character. We love reading in P4/5!
We have been developing our coding skills in ICT this term and are learning how to make a game called ‘Balloon pop’. Mrs Foster has been very impressed with our ability to ‘debug’ problems that we encounter and how confidently we can form the algorithms. Our Digital Leaders have taken a very proactive role in supporting their peers in lessons too, well done!
Our new topic this term is ‘How’s it Made?’ we enjoyed thinking of what we would like to learn. The main focus of this topic is The Titanic but we have also been exploring the concept of inventions and inventors. We are really enjoying our class novel ‘Leonora Bolt Secret Inventor’ and Mrs Foster was really impressed with the beautiful Romero Britto inspired artwork that we created.
Our focus in Mental Maths Mayhem this term was developing speed and accuracy within our times tables. Mrs Foster had planned various games that we really enjoyed playing, ‘Mathopoly’ was our favourite.
This term, we have started Scottish Country Dancing on a Tuesday afternoon with Ruth. We enjoyed working with our partners to learn some steps of the traditional dance. Ruth taught us the importance of counting to 8 and the term ‘happy hoops’. Dancing is great fun!
P4-5 thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Folk Park and seeing what life was like 125 years ago. We found the local history very interesting, especially the schoolhouse, where we practiced our tables on slates! All of us agreed that we are glad there is no cane now! It was particularly special to visit the Folk Park this term as our school is celebrating its 125th anniversary.
P4-5 visited the forest to hear about the McClintock family. We especially loved hearing the story about The White Lady. Mr Dennison made the story very scary and interesting! We wondered did this really happen?
The theme for Friendship Week this year was ‘The Power of Good’. We engaged in lots of class discussions to decide on what we would do to use our power of good in various situations. Mrs Foster challenged us to use our power of good to help others, she was delighted to see all our kind actions! Wearing odd socks helped us remember that we are all different and unique, something we should be proud of!
It was great to work with others in our Shared Education partnership to create a ‘Friendship blanket’. We enjoy making friends from other schools too.
Mental Maths Mayhem is so much fun! We worked in groups on various activities and games. A favourite with the class was the game ‘100’, they particularly loved the competitive nature of the game. P4-5 also had the opportunity to practise their problem-solving skills through a very interesting challenge called ‘Magic squares’.
P4-5 have been enjoying active sessions with Nicola from the IFA. We have been learning lots of different ways that we can keep our bodies healthy. Did you know that you should have at least 10 hours sleep every night? Every session ends with some football practice, which has been great at developing our ability to work as a team!
Pupils from Roscavey, McClintock and St. Colmcille’s travelled to Roscavey where they explored what makes a good friend.
One of the activities was that each pupil coloured a mosaic square that was joined together to make a beautiful blanket.
Thank to Mrs McPhillips from Roscavey PS who led this activity with the help of staff from the three partner schools.
